Musicians from our 10th Anniversary Concert (Feb. 2016)

In Concert for Cambodia (IC4C) was founded in 2006 (originally known as Kids Helping Kids) by 13-year-old Ottawa violinist, Laurent Côté, to help children and youth in need in Cambodia. In recognition for his initiative, Laurent received the 2009 Ontario Youth Philanthropist Award. Since then, IC4C has attracted successive groups of outstanding young musicians and organizers, who continue to raise funds, through concerts, to support The Peaceful Children’s Home in Battambang, Cambodia.

The Peaceful Children's Homes

The Peaceful Children’s Homes (Kandal Province and Battambang) were set up privately in 1994 to receive unaccompanied children returning from refugee camps on the Thai border. Today, The Peaceful Children's Home in Battambang continues to provide a permanent and nurturing environment to girls and boys who have been orphaned, abandoned or rescued from the street. Functioning like a big family, the Home provides the children with a safe and warm environment in which to grow up. Although conditions in the Homes are modest, emphasis is placed on values such as sharing, self-reliance and ethics. Access to education is a priority at the Home, for girls as well as boys: the children attend local schools, they are taught traditional Cambodian music and dance, and many go on to technical studies or university. The Peaceful Children's Home is managed by the Khmer Foundation for Justice, Peace and Development (KFJPD) with an international Board of Directors, including one Canadian.
