2015 Concert
Successful Benefit Concert for the Peaceful Children’s Homes in Cambodia at MacKay United Church, Sunday, January 25, 2015
On behalf of ‘In Concert for Cambodia’, we thank you for your kind and generous support to our ninth annual fund-raising event for the Peaceful Children’s Homes. Thanks to our donors, community and audience, this year’s concert was the most successful ever!
The event was opened by Darren Touch, Second Vice-President of the Cambodian Association of the Ottawa Valley. He reminded us that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the onset of the devastating times experienced by Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, the aftermath of which led to the creation of the Peaceful Children’s Homes. Hosted by City Councillor Tobi Nussbaum (Rideau-Rockcliffe), the concert was attended by well over 150 people, including City Councillor Jean Cloutier (Alta Vista). As the sun poured through the stained glass windows of MacKay United Church, we were treated to a rich program of Mendelssohn, Schumann, Barber, Beethoven, Reinhold (on the harp), as well as a fiddle quartet piece composed and performed by Kyle Burghout. The concert was followed by delicious refreshments and a silent auction, both of which attracted a large crowd.
With your support, we have raised over $6,000 which will go towards the food, health and educational needs of over 100 children and young people at the Peaceful Children’s Homes in Cambodia. We are immensely grateful to the businesses and private donors and supporters who have helped make this year’s event such a success.
